Red Oak Assisted Living
Volunteering with the elderly at Red Oak Assisted Living
1. Scribe: Kamal Trivedi
2. Ground Rules:
1. Be on time
2. Be willing to listen and consider all group members’ ideas.
3. Group members may miss no more than one meeting but must notify the group members in advance.
4. If group members miss a meeting, it is his/her responsibility to make up any missed work.
5. If a member fails to attend a meeting without notifying the group, he/she will receive a warning.
6. All group members must contribute equally to all group work.
7. Wear appropriate attire when volunteering.
8. Be respectful of group members, faculty of red oak, as well as the residents.
9. Have a positive attitude when working.
10. All group members must have a copy of all work so that if one group member fails to show, there will be aback up.
3. We can best support each other by being respectful towards one another and being willing to listen to one another’s ideas. As a group, it is important for us to learn to work together and contribute equally amongst one another.
4. We can best serve our agency by most importantly, being on time, well dressed, and having a positive attitude. We can also serve our agency by living up to the standards of our service learning partner as well as of the English 1200 class.
5. Our wants for the group are to have meeting times that meet all group member’s needs.
6. Our pet peeves are:
a. If a group member failed to contribute to the group.
b. If a group member would not be willing to listen to everyone’s ideas.
7. If a group member does not participate enough, they should first get a warning, followed with having to leave the group if they continue to not participate. To deal with conflict, our group will talk out all of our conflicts so that nothing is left unsaid. 8. Our group members will work on their assigned task and follow up by telling the group what they have done.
9. We will make decisions as a group and talk to all members before making any final decisions.
10. Kamal Trivedi is elected as team captain because she has previously volunteered at Red Oak Assisted Living Home and is also currently going at times.
11. We will meet every time we need to discuss an issue or work on something as a group. Other than that however, we will definitely keep in touch over the phone as often as needed. Maybe once or twice a week. When we meet, it will be in a group member’s dorm, apartment, the computer lab, or the library.
12. We will contact each other either through email or the telephone. We have gotten one another's contact information.
13. Kamal's availability:
Monday, anytime after 11 am
Tuesday, between 9 am and 4 pm
Wednesday, Anytime after 5 pm
Thursday, between 9 am and 4 pm or anytime after 6 30.
Friday, not available
Saturday and Sunday, not available Lavasha’s availability: Monday, After 6:30 pm Tuesday, between 11 am and 2 pm or after 4:30 pm. Wednesday, anytime after 6:30 pm. Thursday, anytime after 11 am Friday, after 6:30 pm Saturday and Sunday: not available
14. Kamal has already volunteered there, therefore knowing what to expect from the community partner. Lavasha is creative, therefore being able to help with bulletin boards. Lavasha and Kamal are both good with the elderly and would be good at speaking and visiting with the residents in the home in a polite manner while having a positive attitude! :)
