I still feel unsure about my paper and my whole MGRP...
Even as a junior I still have my time management problems and I think that since there were not actual due dates... that I didn't get to work as soon as I should have. Going through a mental checklist... I have my research and most of the sources are done. But I referred to the syllabus just a moment ago and still find more information that I feel like I need to add... I only have a week to have the whole project done... yikes! Crunch time.... along with my other 4 classes and 40 hours of teaching practicum... Can't wait till this semester is over!!

My artifact that i drew in class was of a heart that was shining, and it said Red Oak at the top. My artifact was supposed to represent all of the elderly, as well as the workers of the Red Oak Community. I hope to be viewed as an outside helper, who is also a part of that heart. I hope that they all enjoy the poster that we are going to make for them, as well as the time that we have spent with them.

I have to comment on the Bedford Bibliographer... Its amazing!!
Its so much easier to type in the information and it in order for you. I mean, I know what name/place/date and where to find all the information when researching but memorizing the different styles can be confusing. I hope they don't ever change that site because I plan to use it for my future papers. Actually, I already used it for one of my OT papers... Its a great source to use. |

I can't believe that the semester is almost over! I have learned to much this semester by doing the service learning project. I knew the war was going on and everything. However since I was working with Give to the Troops this semester it hit home a little more, one of my friends joined the army and will be being deployed soon, so knowing that people were taking care of our troops was comforting. It made me see just how much our troops sacrifice for us so that we can have our freedom. I think it is a great idea to have an organization like Give to the Troops, so that we can help them out as much as possible, since they are fighting for us!

I’m not sure if I like it or not....it seems to be convenient and very user friendly...but I do have to agree that sometimes it is inconvenient because I also use blackboard for most of my classes. I think the more that I start to use this site, the better I will like it. So far this English class has been very interesting. It’s not one of your traditional English class and that is so great for me! I am not a strong writer, at least not in formal essays, I like how she can switch things up in this class where we can have fun with our writing and still learn all about our research and our service learning projects.

I have never had to do any Service hours for any class til now. I wasn't sure how I was gonna like it until I started looking into it. Im I type of student that likes hands on projects and I feel that service learning will be a great experience for me. Not only will I be helping my community but I will also be getting a grade for something enjoyable. I am looking forward to helping out at the Animal Shelter and will keep you informed on how it goes.

I believe in the Fountain Peanut man. As a town logo, as a festival logo, and as a potential friend to the hundreds of children that will walk through the festival, tasting and purchasing fresh warm roasted peanuts. He has his arms out, as if he’s welcoming anyone who is blessed enough to see him. His hat is clearly the hat of a peanut farmer, and the authenticity delights me. His oversized gloves only make me wonder what his real hands could look like. This doesn’t bother me though; it is simply just a thought. Located at the bottom of the logo is a phrase that perfectly sums up what the Fountain Peanut man could possibly be saying “Were nuts about peanuts”, how perfectly fitting for a peanut festival. All I can say is that I can’t wait until Friday and Saturday September 12-13, because I know where I’ll be.

Well im not going to lie im kinda confused in the class but i think now im starting to get things. Its just that we have so little time left and im afriad that im not going to get everything done in time of the due date. And i really dont wanna turn in no rushed work but i know that if i put my mind to it then i will be able to complete it and do a good job at the same time. I feel sometimes i work well under pressure and thats how i feel now that im under pressure. Its not so much the work as its the time frame. But im gone get it done regardless.

I really dont have as much of a whole family story as i have like little many stories. Like my grandmother telling me how much children were more discipline back then and how things were much cheaper. How if they get out of line once that that would be their butts. She would tell me how they had to wash their clothes in a little pond up the street from the house the same pond they use to swim in. It seem like it was both peacefully and stressful back in those times. It makes you want to be thankful for the things you have. Even though times was kind of hard back then i still wish that gas prices was the same as it was back in the day. My mother use to tell me she could get a sandwich, cookies, drink and a bag of chips all the five cents. Now thats what im talking about i would love that.

Since I never blogged before I didn't know how and what to do for this page. I was shown in class by another student on how to work it. So I know it's a little over due, but I still feel the need to contribute. This is my article...
Title of the Article: Researchers get the skinny on magazine ads Researchers and Departments: Dr. Linda Godbold Kean, an ECU associate professor of communication. And Dr. Laura Prividera, assistant professor of communication. Summary: Researchers analyzed 365 advertisements for food and consumption products from Cosmopolitan and Essence magazines. They found that in Essence, were: individual food items: 40% alcoholic beverages: 11% non-alcoholic beverages: 27 % and fast food: 13% In Cosmopolitan: Individual food items: 27% alcoholic beverages: 28 % non alcoholic beverages: 12% Fast foods: 1% weight-loss products: 26% were most advertised More alcoholic beverages, food, and weight -loss products are advertised in Cosmo where as in Essence were food and non-alcoholic beverages. “Except for race, the magazines’ audiences are similar, said Prividera and Kean. They also said their findings apply to eastern North Carolina and its struggles with racial health disparities and obesity.” (ECU, 2005 pg# 8) “The magazine readers are similar, and the magazines can relate to eastern North Carolina’s struggle with racial health disparities and obesity concern in the area.” (ECU, 2005 page 8) Identifying the research question: What is the health messages magazines give to their readers?

Q: What are your impressions of the research conducted here at ECU?
A: I am impressed by the way they have an interesting magazine by their local students and staff coming up with interesting research to educate the public on their findings. Some actually win awards and recognition on their research which means its not being done and unheard of. The research will help others in daily life or maybe even inspire someone to start to research and to come up with ideas, theories, or even cures for the future. Q: Which reports particularly surprise/engage you? A: I personally thought historically the believe of technology was actually made by slaves but the invention was stolen by their owners. Medically, I felt the article on self breast exam was good because more women need to be aware of their health in all areas of their body. Also the fat camp research, after the fat camp most adolescence go back to old eating habits. Research question was how can the young adults keep the weight off after camp? Lastly, I think socially the research article on the baby boom and how they are in the senior citizen age group. How do you keep the old drivers save and for them to use technology to help them. Q: How do you feel about becoming a researcher in this community of researchers? A: I feel a little intimidated because their topics were easy for the public to understand and actually enjoyable for people to read not just a boring “over your head” journal researchers.

I know I didn't do a productive job in class when this assignment was reviewed, so I wanted to make sure that I did it correct and revised my work.
Group- Horseback riders Ritual- brushing the horse, saddling up the horse, bit the horse, ride, give horse treats... Insider Phrase- "woah", "giddyup", clicking/ kissing Behaviors- anxious to ride, kicking the horse to go, pulling reigns I just started to take horseback riding lessons. I don't know all the terminology yet. I assume it would be something like what I wrote...

Brainstorming:
What I want to accomplish with this project? To research different ways I could help students in their school work by using what techniques use best. What interests me personally about this project? I am a very caring person and enjoy helping others. It makes me feel like I am productive in the world an I can give back to the community. What interests me academically about this project?I want to become a special education teacher, but I would like to know what interest students at a normal IQ and how I could help them be a better student by making learning fun. Who are my readers? Colleagues can read my paper so they can learn the ways I taught. Or critique my paper so I can improve as a future teacher. What topics do my readers need to read about? Maybe a little teaching education background would help. What topics would my readers like to read about? What techniques I used, and how the reaction and outcome of the student. Freewriting: Writing about teaching will help me accomplish the following purposes: learning different ways to teach. Keeping the student's attention. Getting the student motivated to succeed. I am personally interested in teaching because it is what I love to do. Its my major. Its what I want to become. I am academically interest in teaching because I want to be a life long learner. My readers need or would like to know about teaching because they are interested in learning too.

I take out my keys and a black triangle shape thing and press a button. I hear the click of my doors open and get in. People always say to "buckle up first!" but I need to get comfortable before I strap my self in. Sitting in my chair hugging seat, I put the one and only special key to start my journey. I turn the key and hear the humming of satisfaction. I put on my entertainment, either an iPod, CD, or radio and then buckle myself in. I change gears, give gas and go.

After reading the article on Unpacking the Invisible Napsack, I found some of the authors points accurate. Like the simple things like how we view history, going to stores and being able to find things of the white culture. But at the same time I feel that anyone of any race can be racist. Not just white vs. black. There are times where I feel discriminated when the majority population is black, and I feel like they are looking at me just because my skin color. Where I grew up, my high school and neighborhood was multicultural and I don't feel that I hold grudges on one type of race. When I was younger, I never realized it but other people would make a big deal over another race in our community. I was always taught to treat every individual the same. I think today's world is changing when it comes to races.

[ I ran out of time in class to finish my reflection and I can't go back to edit it. so I'm just starting a new thread]
Clarify that my community has changed now and seems like we don't care about anyone else anymore but themselves. ( one reason why I wanted to move) The article made me feel like as a white individual we judge and stereo type others constantly. I don't believe in some things they said, like: "let me see the person in charge." and it is a white male... not always true. There are many people in the world that are successful. First people that came to my mind was in the office, Colin Powell, Condilisa Rice (who, is omg... a woman). Or how about Oprah Winfrey? Tiger Woods, Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter ( he ranks second alongside Elvis Presley as having the most No. 1 albums in history. (The Beatles have the most.)) ... The list can go on... I just don't feel it was right to say that "white people have it made". There are white people (and other races) in the US struggling just as much, and even worst. How about the government giving social security to a black young 21 year old single mother going on her third child, when a white only young adult has two parents that had strokes and need any type of support they can get. She is working as a full time student at Temple University and her part time job isn't cutting it... who gets the social security funds? The single mother, because she didn't use any contraceptive and now has3 other mouths to feed. Now, its not about race to me... but how come the full time student couldn't receive anything for her parents? Some things in the world never change. People have problems changing their ways and views. I can't walk, hand in hand with my boyfriend (that is black) with out getting looks like interracial dating is wrong. This race subject is personal to me and I do have a lot of thoughts and feelings about it.
